The purpose of this policy is to clarify the use of cookies and related technologies by Yobi Code (Pty) Ltd on our Website, including our reasons for employing them and your management options. This document functions alongside our Privacy Statement, which provides comprehensive details on our personal information processing activities in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (“POPIA”). Your continued use of our Website indicates an awareness of this policy; however, we will only deploy non-essential cookies once you have provided explicit opt-in consent through our cookie consent manager, as further detailed herein.
- “We” or “us” means Yobi Code (PTY) Ltd - 2015/186650/07.
- “Website” means our online platforms accessible through any electronic communication network, which is used to provide information, content, services and/or products.
1. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small piece of data that a Website asks your browser to store on your computer, mobile device and/or other web-enabled device whenever you visit a Website. The cookie, once stored, allows the Website to “remember” your device and your actions or preferences over time.
A cookie is downloaded by your internet browser the first time you visit a Website. The next time you visit that Website with the same device, the cookie and the information in it are sent back to either the Website visited (i.e. first-party cookie) or another Website (i.e. third-party cookie). In this way, a Website can detect that it has already been opened using your browser, and, in some cases, it will then vary the content it shows and/or limit or enable functionality.
Most internet browsers support cookies. You can however set your browser to decline certain types of cookies or specific cookies. Further, you can delete cookies at any time.
We may also use similar browser-based storage technologies, including local storage and session storage. These technologies function in a similar way to cookies and are subject to the same principles set out in this policy. References to cookies in this policy include these similar technologies unless the context requires otherwise.
Where we use cookies to collect personal information, this will be carried out in accordance with our Privacy Statement available on Yobi Code’s Website at www.yobicode.co.za. Please ensure that you read our Privacy Statement to understand our practices regarding your personal information and how we will treat such personal information.
2. Why do we use cookies?
We use cookies for a lot of different functions, including to learn how you interact with our content and to generally improve your experience when visiting our Website. For example, some cookies remember your language and other preferences so that you do not have to repeatedly make these choices and/or input these details when you visit our Website.
Cookies can also help to ensure that the advertisements you see online are more relevant to you and your interests. In addition, cookies can help us to analyse the use of our Website and online content and they can also facilitate/track the interaction on our Website and online content with social media (e.g. links to social media sites, like buttons, etc.).
We may employ the learnings of your behaviour on our Website to serve you with targeted advertisement on third-party Website(s) in an effort to “re-market” our products and services to you. We place re-marketing and behavioural advertising cookies only where you have given prior opt-in consent through our cookie consent manager, and you may withdraw that consent at any time.
3. First Party and/or third-party cookies?
We use both first-party and third-party cookies on our Website. First-party cookies are cookies issued from our www.yobicode.co.za domain that are generally used to identify language and location preferences or render basic site functionality.
Third-party cookies belong to and are managed by other parties, such as our business partners or service providers. These cookies may be required to render certain forms, such as the submission of a job application, or to allow for some advertising outside of our Website.
For some of the functions within our Websites we use third-party suppliers, for example, when you visit a page with videos embedded from or links to third-party content providers (for example YouTube, Twitter, etc.). These videos or links (and any other content from third-party suppliers) may contain third-party cookies, and we encourage you to consult the privacy policies of these third-party suppliers on their Websites for information regarding their use of cookies.
We use the following types of third-party cookies and tracking tools, and encourage you to review each provider's own privacy and cookie notices: Website analytics (for example, Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager and Microsoft Clarity); embedded media (for example, YouTube); where used, social and advertising platforms (for example, Meta or LinkedIn) and cookie consent management platforms (for example, CookiesYes). A full cookie inventory, listing each cookie, its provider, purpose, category and duration, is available on request and, where published, through our cookie preference centre.
Some of these third-party providers process your personal information outside the Republic of South Africa. We permit such transfers only where the recipient country or provider offers protection substantially similar to POPIA, or where appropriate safeguards, such as a data processing agreement, are in place, or where you have consented to the transfer, in accordance with section 72 of POPIA. A list of the providers and the countries in which they process data is available on request.
4. Session Cookies and/or Persistent Cookies?
We use both session cookies and persistent cookies on our Website. Session cookies are temporary cookies that are used to remember you during the course of your visit to our Website, and they expire when you close your web browser.
Persistent cookies are used to remember your preferences within our Website and remain on your desktop, mobile device and/or other web-enabled device even after you close your browser or restart your device. We use these cookies to analyse user behaviour to establish visit patterns so that we can improve our Website functionality for you and others who visit our Website. These cookies also allow us to serve you with targeted advertising and measure the effectiveness of our site functionality and advertising.
5. Categories of cookies?
We use the following categories of cookies on our Website:
Each category of cookie relies on a lawful basis for processing under POPIA. Strictly necessary cookies rely on our legitimate interest or the performance of your request (section 11(1)(f) or 11(1)(b)). Analytics and performance cookies rely on your consent (section 11(1)(a)) and are placed only if you opt in. Functionality cookies rely on your consent where they store personal information. Targeting, advertising, social media and re-marketing cookies rely on your explicit opt-in consent (section 11(1)(a)).
5.1. Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are essential in order to enable you to move around our Website and use its features (such as accessing secure areas of our Website). Without these cookies certain functionalities of our Website cannot be offered. Strictly necessary cookies are always active and will be placed without your consent. We limit this category to cookies that are essential to a service you have requested, such as security, load-balancing and remembering your cookie choices. A cookie is not treated as strictly necessary merely because it is convenient for us; anything beyond what is essential requires your consent.
5.2. Analytics cookies
These cookies allow us to employ data analytics so that we can measure and improve the performance of our Website and provide more relevant content to you. Analytics cookies may collect your IP address and assign a pseudonymous identifier to your device; this data is treated as personal information under POPIA. We pseudonymise this data at collection, for example through IP anonymisation and by disabling user-identifying features, so that in the ordinary course it cannot be used to identify you personally. These cookies help us improve the way our Website works, for example by showing us how visitors find what they are looking for.
5.3. Performance cookies
These cookies collect information about your visit and use of our Website, for instance which pages you visit most often and whether you receive error messages. They are generally third-party cookies from vendors we work with or who work on our behalf. Some of the data these cookies collect, such as your IP address, is personal information under POPIA and is treated accordingly. Where these vendors access the data for their own purposes, we rely on your consent and disclose them as recipients of your personal information.
5.4. Functionality cookies
These cookies allow our Website to store information you have already previously entered (such as your username) and remember options you have already previously selected (such as your language), in order to offer you improved personalised functions and remember your preferences. These cookies cannot track your browsing activity on other Websites. They don’t gather any information about you that could be used for advertising or remembering where you’ve been on the internet outside our Website.
5.5. Targeting, advertising and social media cookies
These cookies are used to: (i) deliver advertisements more relevant to you and your interests; (ii) limit the number of times you see an advertisement; (iii) help measure the effectiveness of the advertising campaign; (iv) re-target to our Website or information; and (v) understand your behaviour after you view an advertisement. They are usually placed on behalf of advertising networks with our permission. They remember that you have visited a Website and are often linked to functionality provided by the other organisation. This may affect the content and messages you see on other Websites you visit. These cookies are placed only after you have opted in through our cookie consent manager, and are switched off by default.
6. How are cookies used for advertising purposes?
We may use information collected from our cookies to identify user behaviour and to serve content and offers based on your profile to the extent legally permissible. In other cases, we can associate cookie information with you. For example:
- If we send you a targeted email that includes web beacons, cookies or similar technologies, we will know whether you open, read or delete the message, but we include such tracking only in marketing emails you have opted in to receive, and you may opt out at any time using the unsubscribe link or by contacting popia@yobi.co.za;
- When you click a link in a marketing email you receive from us, we may also use a cookie to log what pages you view and what content you download from our Website, even if you are not registered at or signed into our Website.
Cookies and ad technology such as web beacons, pixels, and anonymous ad network tags help us serve relevant ads to you more effectively. They also help us collect aggregated audit data, research, and performance reporting for advertisers. Pixels enable us to understand and improve the delivery of ads to you, and know when certain ads have been shown to you. Since your web browser may request advertisements and web beacons directly from ad network servers, these networks can view, edit, or set their own cookies, just as if you had requested a web page from their site.
Although we do not sell your personal information, placing advertising and social media tags on our Website causes certain personal information, such as your IP address, device identifiers and browsing behaviour on our site, to be shared with the relevant advertising platforms, which act as operators or processors on our behalf. You can opt out of off-site and third-party-informed advertising by adjusting your cookie settings. Opting out will not remove advertising from the pages you visit; instead, the advertisements you see will no longer be matched to your interests by those specific cookies.
7. Combining and analysing personal data
We may combine data from publicly available sources, and from our different email, Website, and personal interactions with you (this includes information collected when you sign up or log on to our Website or connect to our Website using your social media credentials). We combine this data to better assess your experience with us and to perform the other activities described throughout our Privacy Statement.
The combining and analysing of data described above may involve creating a profile of your interests and preferences (profiling). We use profiling to personalise content and advertising. You have the right under POPIA to object to processing for the purposes of profiling and to ask us to stop profiling your personal information (section 11(3)).
8. Do we use any other tracking technologies similar to cookies?
We may use web beacons (including conversion pixels) or other technologies for similar purposes as above and we may include these on our Website, in marketing email messages or our newsletter, affiliated Websites, to determine whether messages have been opened and links clicked on. Web beacons do not place information on your device, but they may work in conjunction with cookies to monitor Website activity. The information provided herein about cookies also applies to web beacons and similar technologies. Conversion pixels are small codes located on our Website which are triggered when someone visits a page resulting in an increase in the conversion count.
9. How can you manage your cookies?
You can control non-essential cookies through our cookie consent manager, which appears on your first visit to our Website and is available at any time from the cookie settings link on our Website. The consent manager lets you accept or reject each category of cookie separately. Non-essential cookies are switched off by default and are not placed unless and until you opt in, and you can withdraw your consent at any time. You can also remove existing cookies, and block future cookies, through your browser settings.
Using the cookie consent manager will set a single cookie on your device to remember your preferences. This preference cookie does not track you and is kept separate from any analytics or advertising cookies.
Most browsers automatically accept cookies. Therefore, if you do not wish cookies to be used, you may need to actively delete or block the cookies.
If you reject the use of cookies, you will still be able to visit our Website but some of the functions may not work correctly.
You may also visit www.allaboutcookies.org for details on how to delete or reject cookies and for further information on cookies generally. We place non-essential cookies only where you have opted in through our cookie consent manager; continuing to browse our Website is not treated as your consent.
10. Your rights under POPIA
With respect to personal information collected through cookies, you have the right to: access the personal information we hold about you (section 23); ask us to correct or delete it (section 24); object to its processing, including profiling (section 11(3)); and withdraw any consent you have given, at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. You may exercise these rights by contacting our Information Officer using the details below. We aim to respond within 30 (thirty) days.

14. Do Not Track signals
Some browsers can send a Do Not Track signal. Our Website does not currently change its behaviour in response to Do Not Track signals. Please use our cookie consent manager to set your preferences directly.
